Am I entitled to a permit?
You are entitled to apply for a resident’s parking permit if you are a resident within a disc parking area and own a vehicle. However,
- Any resident in a purpose built apartment block where off street parking has been constructed as part of the development will not be eligible for a resident permit.
- Any resident in a purpose built apartment block where there was no off street parking provided as part of the development and where the development of the complex was completed after March 2004 will not be eligible for a residents parking permit.
- Any resident in a purpose built apartment block where there was no off street parking provided as part of the development and where the development of the complex was completed before March 2004 will continue to be eligible for a residents parking permit.
Residents of apartment blocks who have had a resident permit previously (2004-2005) will be reissued with a permit again in 2005-2006. This will be reviewed for the period 2006-2007.
How do I apply for a permit
An application form is available from the Parking Services office at City Hall, Cork or from the City Council website or e-mail parkingpermits@corkcity.ie. Submit all fully completed applications to Residents Permit Section, Parking Services Section, City Hall, Cork.
What do I need for a permit?
- Completed Application Form
- A copy of the Vehicle Licensing Certificate / Log Book for your vehicle – the vehicle must be registered to the address for which the parking permit is being sought – see notes a) and b) below
- A recent domestic Utility Bill or Financial Statement in your name for the address for which the permit is being sought. (i.e. electricity, gas, landline telephone, bank statements, Credit Union statements)
- A copy of your insurance certificate – the address on the insurance certificate must be the same as the address for which the permit is being sought.
- Application Fee of €10
Please note the following:
a) The vehicle must be registered with the Motor Tax Office to the address in which you are applying for the Resident’s Parking Permit
b) If the vehicle is not registered to the address a Vehicle Inquiry Form must be submitted to this office stating that you are the registered owner of the vehicle at the address where you are applying for the permit. This Inquiry Form is available from the Motor Taxation Office
c) All applications received in this office are checked with the Rates Office to ensure that the premises has a Domestic Rating. If the premises is partially commercial/non-residential, the premises may be inspected to confirm adequate residential accommodation is provided within the premises.
d) Incomplete Application forms will be returned to applicant.
e) The renewal of a permit is the responsibility of the permit holder.
If I drive a company vehicle can I get a permit?
Yes. We require a copy of the Vehicle Licensing Certificate and a copy of the Insurance Certificate including a letter from employer on headed paper stating applicant is sole driver and keeps vehicle at application address.

How do I appeal a parking fine?
All appeals have to be in written form and must be received within 14 days of the issue date of the Fixed Charge Penalty Notice. They must contain name and address, ticket number, vehicle registration number and grounds for appeal. This is to be submitted to the Appeals Officer, Parking Services Section, City Hall, Cork. A written response is then issued granting or denying the appeal.
What do I do if I receive Reminder/Summons for a vehicle I have previously sold?
You need to contact the Motor Taxation Office and get written confirmation of change of ownership and supply this to Parking Services office, City Hall, Cork.

How do I report a street light that is not lighting?
Contact the E.S.B on 1850 372 772 giving the street name and the number of the pole or alternatively phone Cork City Council’s Roads Control Division on 4924758 giving the street name and the number of the pole.
How do I report a traffic light problem?
Contact the Traffic Division at 4924452 or e-mail: traffic@corkcity.ie. giving the location of problem and nature of problem.
